How to add a text widget to your WordPress website

If you are using WordPress on your website you may be using widgets on part of the website and you may want to use the text widget that is built into WordPress in one of the widget areas on your website. You can read this post to find out where to update the widgets on your website and then you can use the information in this post to add a text widget on there.

If you want to add a text widget to your WordPress website

  1. From the WordPress admin left menu you can click on appearance > widgets
  2. The left part of the page has available widgets
  3. The right part of the page has the different widget areas in your theme
  4. You can click on the text widget on the left part of the page and then move it to the widget area you want to put it in on there
  5. When you edit the widget you can click the save button to save the widget

If that worked for you then that is one way to use the text widget on your website on there.

How to add the custom html widget to a widget area on your WordPress website

On your WordPress website you may be using widgets on part of the website. You may want to use the custom html widget that is built into WordPress in one of the widget areas on your website. If you do not know where the widgets are managed you can read this post to find out where to update the widgets on your website on there.

To add the custom html widget to a widget area on your WordPress website

  1. From the WordPress admin left menu you can click on appearance > widgets
  2. The left part of the page has available widgets
  3. The right part of the page has the different widget areas in your theme
  4. You can click on the custom html widget on the left part of the page and then move it to the widget area you want to put it in on there
  5. When you edit the widget you can click the save button to save the widget

That is one way to use the custom html widget on your website on there.

How to find where to update the widgets on your WordPress website

If you have a WordPress website you may have widgets on some of the pages on there. You can update the widgets from the WordPress admin on there.

To find and update the widgets on your WordPress website on there

  1. From the WordPress admin left menu you can click on appearance > widgets
  2. The left part of the page has available widgets
  3. The right part of the page has the different widget areas in your theme
  4. You can click on the available widget you want to use and move it to the widget area you want to put it in on there
  5. When you edit the widget you can click the save button to save the widget

If that worked for you it would let you update and then save the widgets on your website on there.

How to add a widget area to the top of a WordPress website before the header in a StudioPress Genesis theme

You may want to add a widget area to the top of your WordPress website in your StudioPress Genesis theme. In order to add a widget area to your StudioPress Genesis theme without using a plugin you can then add this code to your functions.php file. You may want to backup your WordPress website before you make updates to it.

 *
 * @author WPSnacks.com
 * @link https://www.wpsnacks.com
 */
genesis_register_sidebar( array(
	'id'          => 'widget-before-header',
	'name'        => __( 'Before Header Widget', 'yourtheme' ),

If you want to style the widget you can do that in css using .widget-before-header in your stylesheet or you can read this post on how to style your custom widget area on your website for more information on how to do that on there. You can replace the yourtheme title with the name of your WordPress theme.

Now if that works for you it would add the new widget area to your StudioPress Genesis theme at the top of your website before the header on there.

How to style your custom widget area in a StudioPress Genesis theme on WordPress

If your website uses a StudioPress Genesis theme for your WordPress website you may want to add your custom widget areas to the theme and you may want to style those widget areas in your css stylesheet. You can then add this code to your css stylesheet file to style your custom widget areas in your StudioPress Genesis theme without using a plugin on there.

.your-widget-name {
    width: 200px;
    height: 200px;
}

You would replace the .your-widget-name with the name you gave your custom widget area and then use css to style it on there.

How to remove WordPress secondary sidebar in StudioPress Genesis

How to change the number of WordPress footer widgets in StudioPress Genesis
